Where to Watch The Keto Project (2025)

6 min read

People ask me this every week, usually after they’ve seen a clip of Dr. Mike eating burger number 400-something at a Burger King counter. So here is the straight answer, with no runaround.

The Keto Project is on Amazon Prime Video in the United States. You can rent it or buy it. It is not on Netflix, and it is not free.

Where to watch The Keto Project right now

  • Amazon Prime Video (US): Rent it for $2.99 or buy it for $9.99. Rent gives you 30 days to start and 48 hours to finish once you press play. Buy keeps it in your Amazon video library.
  • Runtime: 1 hour 49 minutes.
  • Rating: 13+.
  • Released: 2025. We held the red-carpet premiere on May 8, 2025 in Red Bank, New Jersey.
  • Listed under: Documentary, Special Interest.

If you already pay for Prime, the film is still a rental or a purchase. It is not included in the Prime subscription at the moment. That is how the distributor set up the listing, and I’d rather tell you that here than have you hunt for a “free with Prime” badge that isn’t there.

Watch the trailer first

Two minutes, and you’ll know whether this is your kind of film.

What you are actually watching

The one-sentence version: a fit doctor ate 600 burgers in 30 days, and we tracked what it did to his body.

The longer version: Dr. Michael Brandon, a chiropractic physician who trains hard and takes his own health seriously, agreed to eat nothing but fast-food burgers for a month. Not the buns. Not the fries. Not the soda. Just the meat, cheese and toppings, twenty burgers a day, thirty days straight, inside a keto and carnivore framework. Before he started, we ran a full blood panel. We ran it again every week. We ran it one more time when the thirty days were over.

Around that experiment we sat down with people who have spent their careers on the question the film asks: Dr. Dom D’Agostino, Dr. Shawn Baker, Ron McKeefery PhD CSCS*D, WBC NABF champion Antonio Tarver Jr, Dr. Richard Shaker, IFBB Pro Jason Arntz, Seth Kaelin, Chantea Goetz PhD(s) and Ming Chen. I directed it, produced it alongside Michael and Ryan Duddy, and I’m in it more than I planned to be. Matthew Schultz did the music.

If you want the full roster and what each person brought, I wrote it up in Every expert in The Keto Project. If you want to know what “keto versus carnivore” even means in this context, start with Achieving ketosis on a carnivore diet.

Is it on Netflix, Hulu, or Disney+?

No. I get asked this constantly and the answer is the same every time. We are an independent documentary made in New Jersey on a budget that would not cover the catering on a streaming original. Amazon is where the film lives. If that changes, this page will change first.

Is there a free version?

Not on Amazon, and I’d ask you to be careful with anything that claims to be the full film for free. The trailer is free. The clips on our social accounts are free. The film itself costs less than a cup of coffee to rent, and that rental is what keeps the lights on for the next project.

Do I need to read the book first?

No, but a lot of people do it the other way around. 600 Burgers in 30 Days is the official prequel. It is Dr. Mike’s diary from the thirty days, the science we couldn’t fit into 109 minutes, and the recipes. It hit #1 best seller on Amazon in its category, which still surprises me. Paperback, Kindle and Audible are all available; details are on the book page.

Can I watch it outside the United States?

The Amazon listing is US-only at the moment. If you are in the UK, Canada, Australia or elsewhere and the Amazon page won’t let you rent, the honest answer is that we are working through our distributor to open more territories, and I don’t have a date. Email me at jgoetz@functionised.com and I’ll add you to the list of people I notify when it happens.

How to rent it, step by step

  1. Go to the film’s Amazon page.
  2. Sign in to your Amazon account (any account works; Prime is not required).
  3. Choose Rent ($2.99) or Buy ($9.99).
  4. Press play on any device with the Prime Video app: TV, phone, tablet, laptop, Fire Stick.

If you rent, you have 30 days to start watching and 48 hours to finish once you begin. If you buy, it stays in your library.

Which devices work

Anything that runs the Prime Video app. Smart TVs, Fire TV and Fire Stick, Roku, Apple TV, iPhone and iPad, Android phones and tablets, game consoles, and any laptop browser. If you rent on your phone during a commute, it’ll be waiting on your TV when you get home; the rental follows your Amazon account, not the device.

Why Amazon and not everywhere at once

Short version: an independent film goes where the distributor can place it, and the distributor placed it on Amazon. That’s also why any changes to the listing, the art, or the price take a while; they go through the distributor, not through me. I mention this because a few people have asked why the Amazon page doesn’t lead with the burger. We’re working on it.

A note on the rating

13+ is Amazon’s classification. There is no violence and no sex, but there is a grown man eating twenty burgers a day and talking honestly about what that does to his digestion, and there is language. My kids watched it. Yours can decide for themselves.

After you watch it

Two asks, and both are optional. First, if you have an honest opinion, leave it as an Amazon review. Good or bad, it helps the next person decide, and it helps the film show up when someone types “keto documentary” into the search bar. Second, if you have a question the film didn’t answer, send it to me. The blog on this site exists because of those questions; What is the Keto Project movie? started as one of them.

Questions I hear at every screening

Did he really eat 600? Yes. Twenty a day, thirty days, receipts and footage for all of it. The counting was the easy part; the counters are in the film.

Was he sick afterward? That’s the last act, and I’m not putting it in a blog post. What I’ll say is that every weekly panel was read by a physician before the next week started, and nobody had to stop the experiment.

Is this an ad for keto or carnivore? No. The people in it disagree with each other on camera, which is the point. If you want to see how the two frameworks differ, read Keto vs carnivore: what the 600-burger experiment tested.

How is it different from Super Size Me? Same stunt, opposite question. Spurlock ate the whole meal; Mike ate only the meat and cheese, and we drew blood weekly. The long answer is in The Keto Project vs Super Size Me.

Where to find more

I made this film to answer one question with real numbers instead of opinions. The final labs are in the last twenty minutes, and I’m not going to spoil them here. Watch The Keto Project on Amazon.
